Cook County Commissioner Josina Morita's BeloveD13 Market series continues to bring communities together through unique cultural experiences. This time, the spotlight was on the vibrant celebration of Diwali, the Festival of Lights.

On Monday, October 28th, Commissioner Morita, in partnership with State Senator Ram Villivalam, State Representative Kevin Olickal, Alderman Debra Silverstein, and The Indo-American Center, hosted a special Diwali Market Tour at Patel Brothers, a beloved local Indian grocery store.

Attendees had the opportunity to embark on a guided tour led by Susan Patel, exploring the store's aisles filled with a diverse array of South Asian snacks, spices, and baked goods.

“We launched the BeloveD13 Market series to connect communities through cultural celebrations like Diwali,” said Commissioner Morita. “It’s a chance to introduce people to new traditions, foods, and products while supporting local businesses like Patel Brothers.”

As more people participate in these guided market tours, it’s clear that food and shared experiences are universal languages that bring people closer together.

In a world that is constantly changing, initiatives like the BeloveD13 Market series reminds us of the power of community, the joy of discovery, and the shared humanity that lights up every festival.
