Asian chefs are having a major moment, and the James Beard Foundation's newest TasteTwenty class proves it.
The Foundation has officially unveiled its 2026-2027 TasteTwenty cohort, an exclusive group of 20 chefs selected from across the country to headline the highly anticipated Taste America national tour. This annual program spotlights visionary culinary leaders who are actively shaping the future of American dining through immense creativity, community impact, and rich cultural storytelling.
This year's lineup features several standout Asian chefs whose restaurants have become absolute must-visit favorites in their local food scenes. Over the next year, they will host special hometown events as Taste America travels to 20 cities nationwide.
Chicago's Food Scene Gets the Spotlight
Chicago food lovers have so much to celebrate!
When the Taste America tour arrives in March 2027, the city's featured culinary stars will be Zubair Mohajir and Rishi Kumar of Mirra and Mariela. Both have earned well-deserved recognition as James Beard Award Semifinalists. They have built stellar reputations for creating thoughtful, flavor-driven dining experiences that draw beautiful inspiration from their backgrounds and culinary journeys.

Their upcoming Taste America dinner will give guests the exclusive opportunity to experience their incredible cooking in a special one-night event alongside fellow members of Chicago's vibrant food community.
Asian Chefs to Watch Across the Tour
Chicago is not the only stop highlighting phenomenal Asian culinary talent. If you are traveling, keep your eyes on these amazing events:

- New Orleans (September 16, 2026): The massive celebration begins here! Sophina Uong of Mister Mao will host the spectacular opening event. This walk-around tasting will feature all 20 TasteTwenty chefs and officially kick off the nationwide series.

- Houston (October 2026): James Beard Award nominees Evelyn Garcia and Henry Lu will beautifully represent JŪN and Third Place.

- Raleigh (October 2026): Featured chef Saif Rahman of Peregrine will host an unforgettable hometown dinner.

- Atlanta (March 2027): This event will spotlight James Beard Award nominees Parnass Savang and Rod Lassiter of Talat Market, one of the country's most celebrated destinations for Thai-inspired cuisine.

- Philadelphia (March 2027): The city will welcome James Beard Award winner Phila Lorn of Mawn, bringing his distinctive and vibrant culinary perspective to the national tour.
