HANA Center is hosting our 2nd annual storytelling event, and we're looking for storytellers! This year's theme is I am an Immigrant: Stories Belonging, Resistance, and Our Shared Humanity. We find collective liberation and healing through stories that center our community. These stories have the capacity to inspire and compel positive social change. Through this storytelling event, we aim to raise funds that will directly support outreach to our local immigrant community to impact the national narrative through participation in the 2020 primary election.
THEMES: Identity, rootedness, community, peacemaking, overcoming struggle, coalition-building, power.
ELIGIBILITY: Entrants must be at least 21 years of age.
LANGUAGE: All entries must be in English. Stories at the event may be delivered in another language if the storyteller can provide an interpreter.
CRITERIA: Stories must reflect an immigrant experience. Entrants must either be an immigrant themselves (not born in the United States) or a descendant of immigrants. Immigrants of color, women, LGBTQ+ people, adoptees, and community members of all abilities are encouraged to apply.
LIVE STORY EVENT: Finalists must be available to present at the time of the event, Friday, February 28th, 2020 from 6 to 9 pm in Downtown Chicago (location will be announced in December).
SUBMISSION: All entries must be between 6 to 10 minutes in length. Submit your application by clicking the link below and send a Word/PDF transcript and/or audio file to Joyce Yang: jyang@hanacenter.org by December 1, 2019.
