Asian Americans represent one of the fastest growing demographic groups according to the 2020 Census data. While there have been some gains in recent years, widespread recognition of the accomplishments, contributions and cultural understanding of the AAPI community in Illinois is lacking.

This year's convention has seen unprecedented representation, reflecting a broader and more inclusive approach within the Democratic Party. Compounded with the high-profile representation of a South Asian American and Black Democratic candidate for the President of the United States, Asian American identity is prominently on the minds of Americans.

Part of demonstrating these efforts is the implementation of policies, programs, and advocacies that were designed to answer some of the community’s pressing issues like alleviating poverty and inequality. Leaders who invest in and actively promote these efforts are bound to be visions for change. Such is the nature for Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth.
