‘Khwab-e-Rafu’ (Dreams of Mending) is a cross-border feminist textile art project inviting people from India, Pakistan, and the South Asian diaspora to stitch their dreams of a healed, peaceful future.
A future that dares to imagine beyond the scars of Partition and the wounds of ongoing conflict. Drawing on ‘rafu,’ a South Asian traditional darning practice, the project uses visible mending as both metaphor and method for repairing the growing divides between our nations.
This project emerges at a critical moment: in May 2025, India and Pakistan were engaged in military actions and on the brink of war. India also witnessed a disturbing trend of militarist agendas co-opting feminist language to justify violence and conflict. Khwab-e-Rafu directly challenges this appropriation by reclaiming feminist values of care, repair, and solidarity as radical acts of peace-building, not war-mongering.
