The Chicago non-profit arts group APIDA Arts presents a spooky, IMMERSIVE event with the theme of reimagining Halloween through the Asian, Pacific Island, Desi/South Asian American creative lens. The event is at the Chinese American Museum of Chicago on October 20, 2024 from 5-8PM.
The concept is to take a ghost story, spooky tale, or dark theme from the APIDA culture you identify with and reinterpret it through your artistic vision. Like a dance, painting, photo, or poem reinterpreting a ghost story you heard from your APIDA grandparents. Or a monologue or play scene sharing what scares you.
You may also reconstruct a common Halloween piece in your way. Like singing Monster Mash in a different language, or reworking the white sheet ghost costume.
We seek work that you are deeply connected to, as you re-imagine your spooky cultural influences.
