In celebration of Filipino Heritage Month, the Chicago Public Library, Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), and Alderperson Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth proudly welcome some of Chicago’s most influential Filipino chefs to the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium at Harold Washington Library. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the Filipino culinary scene from chefs such as Joe Fontelera of Boonies, Martin Tan of Cebu, and Melvin Reyes of Mano Modern Café. Award-winning reporter Monica Eng will moderate the conversation, and the chefs will discuss their culinary journeys, the integration of Filipino flavors in Chicago’s diverse food scene, and the significance of Filipino heritage in their work.

Library Commissioner Chris Brown shared, “In a city packed with cultures—and where cookbooks fly off our shelves—this event is a perfect recipe for flavor and fun. Huge thanks to DCASE and Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth for making it happen. Come hungry for culture and cuisine!”

Alderperson Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth added, “I am proud to represent the people of Edgewater and Uptown as the first-ever Filipina to serve on Chicago City Council in its 187-year history. As the daughter of Filipino immigrants, who was born in Chicago, I am thrilled to see Chicagoans of all backgrounds experiencing the joy of Filipino cuisine now more than ever. We are fortunate to have exceptional Filipino chefs and restaurateurs in Chicago sharing our cuisine with the world."
