Event Date: November 7, 2024
On Thursday, Nov 7th, Brown Man Therapy (BMT) will host its second annual Diwali Fundraiser celebrating mental health in the South Asian community - Finding Light Through the Darkness. Last year’s Finding Light Through the Darkness Diwali Fundraiser centered on celebrating South Asian mental health. It exceeded our expectations, selling out in less than a month, and helped raise awareness and normalize mental health conversations in the community.
This year's event will be on Thursday, November 7th and promises to be even more impactful with a larger venue, award ceremony recognizing mental health champions, and culture-forward programming. Proceeds will support our plans to create spaces for vulnerable storytelling, leverage data-backed mental health care methods, and build a supportive South Asian community. You can purchase tickets for this one-of-a-kind event that brings together culture and community for an important purpose here.

Brown Man Therapy (BMT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting mental health awareness, education, and community engagement among South Asian men, while recognizing that by improving the mental health of men, the lives of all are impacted. Our mission is to normalize mental health discussions, foster inclusivity, and advocate for the benefits of psychotherapy and mental healthcare. The funds raised through this gala supports our ongoing programming including workshops, panel discussions, and creating spaces for story telling and vulnerable conversations.
Origins and Growth: Licensed Psychotherapist Ankur Varma, LCPC has worked for over 10 years with little engagement from South Asian men in therapy. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, BMT emerged in response to the growing demand for therapy services and mental health resources within the South Asian community. Ankur and his wife and co-founder Palak Sheth spearheaded the organization's expansion, forging partnerships with local and national organizations to combat stigma, promote awareness, and build community connections. By advancing mental health awareness and support, Brown Man Therapy aims to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for South Asian men to thrive. Initiatives and Impact
